Silicone on double glazing assembly machines
Machines that assemble insulating glass units apply sealant around the edge of the panes. The bead must be even from the first corner to the last. A positive displacement gear pump delivers the same volume at every revolution, so the quantity of silicone follows the speed of the machine.
Manufacturers of these machines use our pumps for silicones, rubbers and additives. We work with machine builders who need a compact pump to integrate in their design.
A very viscous product needs low speed
Silicone does not pour. It has to be pushed. The rule for gear pumps is simple: the thicker the fluid, the lower the speed. For this reason we often supply a geared motor unit, which turns the pump slowly and with the torque the product requires.
The series we normally propose: NAV and ZV
For silicones we normally propose the flanged NAV series, designed for high viscosity fluids, and the ZV series for the small flow rates of metering and two-component mixing. The model must be confirmed by our technical office for your sealant, because grades and fillers differ a great deal.
Curing, fillers and two-component sealants
Since silicone cures in contact with humid air, the line must stay full and closed during stops. Some sealants contain mineral fillers that can be abrasive, and we take this into account when we choose the speed.
Two-component sealants need a base and a catalyst in a fixed ratio. With gear pumps you set that ratio through the speed of each pump, as with resins, isocyanates and polyols. If you also dose colour pastes, see our paint and pigment pumps. Send your data to the technical office in Bologna, Italy, and we will size the pump with you.
